ChatGPT as an Educational Tool: Meta-Analysis of its Role in EFL Learning

Abstrakt

Táto metaanalýza skúma, ako sa využíva ChatGPT pri výučbe a učení sa angličtiny ako cudzieho jazyka (EFL). Úvod štúdie opisuje teoretické aspekty ChatGPT, vysvetľuje, ako funguje a aké sú jeho výhody a nevýhody. Následne metaanalýza systematicky skúma rôzne štúdie, ktoré začlenili ChatGPT do výučby angličtiny ako cudzieho jazyka. Prostredníctvom tejto analýzy štúdia identifikuje rôzne spôsoby aplikácie nástroja AI do nastavení jazykového vzdelávania, vrátane konverzačnej praxe a podpory písania. Zistenia metaanalýzy poskytujú pohľad na to, aké efektívne je začleniť ChatGPT do vyučovania. Skúmaním výsledkov týchto implementácií práca ponúka hlbšie pochopenie možných výhod a prekážok spojených s používaním ChatGPT v prostredí jazykového vzdelávania.

Abstract

This meta-analysis explores how is ChatGPT used in teaching and learning English as a foreign language (EFL). Initially, it discusses the theoretical aspects of ChatGPT, explaining how it works and its advantages and disadvantages. It further analyses a collection of research papers that focus on integrating this AI tool into language learning. Following the theoretical examination outlining its core features, the meta-analysis systematically reviews various studies that have incorporated ChatGPT into EFL teaching. Through this analysis, the paper identifies the different ways of application an AI tool into language learning settings, including conversational practice and writing support. The findings of the meta-analysis provide insights into how effective and viable it is to incorporate ChatGPT into teaching. By examining the results of these implementations, the paper offers a deeper understanding of the possible advantages and obstacles linked with using ChatGPT in language learning environments.
