Dr. Xenia Liashuk, University of Trnava, Slovakia
Abstract
As business communication increasingly depends on advanced English skills tailored to specific professional contexts, Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents new possibilities for developing Business English writing competencies within English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This paper systematically reviews existing literature on the use of generative AI for enhancing business writing skills. The primary objectives of the paper are to (1) analyze how generative AI tools have been utilized to support ESP writing skill development, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of these tools in meeting ESP-specific requirements for Business Writing, and (3) identify research gaps to suggest future study directions. Following a systematic review methodology, this study gathers peer-reviewed publications accessed through databases including Web of Science, Scopus, and other. Articles are screened for relevance to generative AI applications in Business English and ESP learning objectives. Through content analysis, this review examines insights on how generative AI can provide tailored instructional support, real-time feedback, and context-specific writing practice. The results reveal that generative AI tools, such as text generation models and conversational agents, offer useful benefits in assisting ESP learners with drafting, editing, and refining their business writing production. These tools provide personalized language models that simulate business communication styles, generate contextually appropriate suggestions, and allow for immersive practice. Alongside with that, certain challenges need to be addressed, such as ensuring cultural and contextual relevance, enhancing the accuracy of language use in specific communicative situations, and addressing the ethical implications of AI in learning environments.
